Adhering to netiquette principles facilitates smoother and more meaningful exchanges among internet users. Rooted in fostering a healthy virtual environment, netiquette establishes the framework for respectful online interaction (Oxford Learner’s Dictionaries, n.d.).
The Influence of Good Netiquette
Research by Ramon Bartl underscores the tangible benefits of good netiquette. Bartl’s thesis reveals that practicing good netiquette leads to better understanding, job satisfaction, and reduced conflict (Bartl, 2006, p. 3). Journalists place a high value on being courteous and ethical in internet encounters, promoting professionalism and productive discourse. To convey different points of view without distortion, they minimize prejudice by upholding the values of impartiality and fairness, looking for other opinions, and gathering supporting data. Strict fact-checking and verification procedures confirm information and protect against false information, which raises the reporting’s trustworthiness. To preserve ethical norms and public confidence, we disclose conflicts of interest and communicate honestly with readers. Transparency and accountability are given first priority.
